If you’ve lived in San Antonio for any time at all, you know how bad allergy season can get here. We usually think of the outdoors when we think about allergies – but what’s going on inside your home also plays a big role in how you feel.
Martin and Debbie Bomba, the co-owners of Window World TX, were featured on KENS 5 this week to talk about some simple steps you can take in your home that may make a big impact with your allergies. Here are a few things that can keep bad air out and good air in.
Weatherstripping
Make sure you have good weatherstripping on your energy-efficient windows. You want that weatherstripping along both the interior and exterior of your windows. This will help keep airborne allergens out of your home. If you do have dust and debris on your windows, use a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar to clean them – and keep the area around your windows and window frames clean, as well.
Air filters
Picking the right air filter for your home’s air conditioner is key to fighting allergies. Martin recommends a pleaded air filter with a MERV rating of 9 for peak efficiency. Air filters catch dust and particles from your ducts before they make their way into your home.
