We have rounded up some of our best tips to maintain spotless, perfectly clean windows all year long.
So, are you ready to get the crystal-clear windows of your dreams? Read through our list of tips to find out how!
Wash Windows On Cloudy Days
Sunlight may give you a better view through your windows, but it isn’t ideal for washing. You’re likely to find that direct sunlight will dry out the cleaner you spray on your windows before you can fully wipe it away. This will lead to stubborn streaks and more work for you. Avoid this by washing your windows on an overcast day. (Bonus: it’ll be easier to see streaks with reduced glare!)
Vacuum Before Washing
Dust and animal hair are part of life, but they can make washing windows more difficult than necessary. Try vacuuming before cleaning the windows – it’ll keep pesky debris from clinging to the glass.
Make sure to get all around the screens and windowsill, too. We also recommend cleaning your blinds and curtains as well to get rid of excess dust.
Remove Stickers From The Glass
Have a decal or label stuck on your window? Don’t worry, there’s one secret ingredient to remove that stubborn sticker for good. Isopropyl alcohol will completely remove any adhesive from that annoying decal!
Just soak a section of a cloth in isopropyl alcohol and press it against the sticker, then you’ll rub that area gently until the sticker and glue lift away. To see prime results, do this out of sunlight and wait a minute or two before peeling off the label after applying the remover.
Start With The Frames
Window tracks are perfect for hiding dirt and grime, which will leave a nasty residue on the glass if it mixes with your cleaner. To clean this effectively, use a cotton pad or soft toothbrush dipped in vinegar to scrub the tracks, and wipe away the vinegar with a wet cloth.
Ditch The Paper Towels & Buy A Squeegee
It’s common to use paper towels as a cloth for window cleaning and drying, but this is a big mistake. Paper towels will leave behind bits of lint as they break down while cleaning.
Instead, we suggest investing in a Squeegee. There’s a reason you see professional window washers using them – they ensure a quick, streak-free clean. The best way to clean with a squeegee is by using the smallest amount of water or solution necessary, and keeping the blade moderately dry by shaking off the excess fluid.
For drying the windows, you’ll want to use a clean and dry microfiber cloth to buff the class for a perfect finish.
Use The Right Window Cleaner
If you’re interested in a non-toxic, homemade cleaner, we have two solutions for you. These homemade glass cleaners can work just as well as store-bought, but without the strong scent or chemicals.
For a sudsy window cleaner, add a few drops of liquid dish soap to a bucket of warm water. The important thing to remember with this cleaner is that less is more. Or, for a non-soapy solution, you can mix equal parts of distilled white vinegar and warm water. This solution works well in a spray bottle, and is also perfect for quick clean-ups.
