March 20 is the first official day of Spring, that means it’s time for you to get ready for spring cleaning! To make your home more enjoyable for the beautiful weather that is soon coming, here are four simple ways you can get your home ready for the spring season.
Clean your windows
Window cleaning is an important step in the spring-cleaning process because it gets rid of the dirt and grime you’ve accumulated over the colder months. Delaying or neglecting to clean your windows could lead to unwanted stains and marks. Any time you clean your windows, you’ll want to use a sponge or clean cloth. You’ll then wipe down the windows with warm water that is mixed with a small amount of vinegar or dish soap.
Clean your gutters
The spring season is known for bringing a lot of rain. Your gutters control the flow of the rainwater and protect some of the most important parts of your home, such as the foundation and landscape. A clogged gutter can cause a leaky roof or water damage to your home. Check out one of our recent blog posts to see how to take care of gutter cleaning.
Prep your garden
As the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers,” so you should get your garden ready! Here are a few ways that you can prepare your garden for the spring season:
- Pulling weeds
- Inspecting trees and shrubs for winter damage
- Removing winter protection
- Prepping your garden tools
- Fertilizing the flower beds
Replace your air filters
The changing of the seasons is the key time to replace the filters that are in your home. A general rule of thumb during this time of year is to replace the filters in your home about every 90 days. Dirty or clogged air filters will drive up your energy bills, could cause people with asthma or allergies to suffer and can cause problems in your HVAC system.
You can also prepare by doing other important home maintenance tasks such as scrubbing your walls, baseboards and outlets, checking foundation vents, cleaning your outdoor grill, testing your smoke alarms, cleaning your outdoor furniture and so much more. Your home has been closed off and insulated for months. Getting your home ready for the spring with a good spring cleaning improves the quality of air in your home and overall makes you feel good. The chance to have outdoor entertaining is right around the corner, so get up and get to cleaning!
