It’s mid-March, so we’re about a month out for the tax deadline. But before you file, make sure you’re getting all the tax credits you’re eligible for!
If you made energy-efficient home improvements in 2011 or 2012, you could be eligible for a tax credit of up to $500. Here are the window and door qualifications, as explained by Energy Star:
- Must be ENERGY STAR qualified.
- You do not have to replace all the windows/doors/skylights in your home to qualify. And it doesn’t need to be a replacement either – installing a new window where there wasn’t one previously (like in an addition) qualifies.
- Tax Credit does NOT include installation costs.
If you qualify, download Form 5695 and include it with your taxes. Congratulations on making energy-efficient home improvements!
