Back in September, I mentioned on the morning show that we had been taking donated items from Grace Community Church in Universal City down to Corpus Christi in response to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Unfortunately, in the national news, it was really kind of the forgotten area of damage. You heard all about Houston, but very little about the Coastal Bend – Rockport, Portland, Port Arthur, Lamar, Ingleside, Aransas Pass, and Port Aransas. There’s been some major devastation down there. They took the brunt of those 150 mph winds that just completely blew houses away. In some of those neighborhoods, there were nothing but slabs.
Devastating Wind
We spoke to a customer in Aransas Pass who has a ranchette in the middle of town. He said there were at least 18 to 20 tornadoes on his property and the windows that held up were fantastic. He had a little bit of siding that got blown off and almost every oak tree on his 3 or 4 acres was blown off. This isn’t to downplay the water damage in Houston, but the wind damage in the Coastal Bend was horrendous. There were houses and buildings completely blown away, boats found blocks away from where they were supposed to be. A boat storage facility in Rockport was completely obliterated. Residents were so grateful for the desperately needed pet food, diapers, underwear, socks, and cleaning supplies. Thank God for the good work that the volunteers have been doing.
